COMMISSION FOR SPIRITUAL LIFE MINISTRY
LITURGY COMMITTEE The Liturgy Committee is responsible for fostering the spiritual life of the parish and to enhance liturgy through evaluation of our worship. This committee is comprised of the chairperson, coordinators of the lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, greeters, a pastoral representative and chairpersons of the music, prayer and environment subcommittees. This committee meets on the second Tuesday of each month throughout the year.
Music Ministry This ministry consists of: Cantors who sing at all weekend and Holy Day Masses on a rotating basis; Instrumentalists who have skills and experience in playing a musical instrument; Adult Choir which consists of individuals who enjoy singing. Member of this group sing at either the 9:00 a.m. or 7 p.m. Sunday Masses. Choir rehearsal is held on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. August through June; Funeral Choir consists of individuals who will sing at Masses of Christian burial. They must be able to rehearse and sing on a short notice. This choir rehearses in church 30 minutes before the mass.
Environment Committee The work of this committee is to add to the beauty of the liturgical celebrations through enhancing the environment in which we worship. The committee meets as the major holiday seasons are approaching to discuss, plan and implement decorations for the church.
Lectors Lectors proclaim the Word of God through readings from Scripture at Sunday and Holy Day Masses. Parishioners of high school age and older can become lectors. No regularly scheduled meetings.
Eucharistic Ministers Eucharistic Ministers assist the presider in the distribution of Holy Communion at all masses. To become a Eucharistic Minister, a parishioner must have received the Sacrament of Confirmation. Appropriate training sessions are provided.
Servers Servers perform the function of assisting the presider during Mass. Volunteers from children, adolescents to adults are welcome. To become a server, once must have completed the first half of the 4th grade and received the Sacrament of First Eucharist. Server training is held several times a year.
Sacristans These people prepare the altar and the sacristy for the Masses. As a group, they do not hold meetings.
HOSPITALITY COMMITTEE This committee consists of Greeters, Coffee and Donuts, and Welcoming Committee
Greeters Greeters welcome parishioners and guests of St. Joseph’s. They distribute hymnals and missalettes. Those wanting to serve as greeters must participate in appropriate training sessions. No regularly scheduled meetings.
Coffee and Donuts This committee sets up the coffee and donuts after the 9 a.m. Mass on Sundays when Religious Education Classes are in session.
Welcoming Committee This committee is responsible for welcoming new parishioners to the parish.
ALTAR SOCIETY This organization is open to women only and all women of the parish are invited to join. The purpose of the organization is to care for and maintain the sanctuary/altar for the church by providing for altar hosts, wine, vestments, candles, flowers, servers’ attire, linens and other items necessary for worship of the community. They also promote the spiritual growth of the members and provide women of the parish an opportunity to meet and enjoy one another while engaging in good works. This committee meets quarterly.
